A Broken Country Whole Again
By the end of 1991, most of the laws that had made and enforced apartheid were abolished. The election of Nelson Mandela in 1994 completely destroyed the apartheid state in South Africa. When South Africans voted to abolish apartheid a majority of 69% voted yes.
A New Era for South Africa
The election of Nelson Mandela in 1944 was the first all-race election in South Africa. After apartheid, people started calling South Africa the "rainbow nation." All races were represented, and segregation was abolished, but still whites were better off than blacks. All races, however, are equal, and blacks and whites can move about equally, without fear of discrimination.
